Japanese Blade Technology
The Cobalt Vertex features what Japanese scissor masters call the YKC design, a specialized hybrid blade that combines two traditional cutting edge styles in one revolutionary design.
The foundation is the Hamaguri-ha (clam shell) edge, which provides exceptional sharpness with a convex shape that cleanly slices through hair without pushing it away. This creates precise, clean cutting lines.
What makes the Vertex special is how this is combined with elements of the Sasa-ha (bamboo leaf) design, a specialized curve that enhances forward motion during slide cutting for unprecedented smoothness and control.
This hybrid approach creates a shear that Japanese craftsmen specifically design for versatility, allowing it to excel at virtually any cutting technique with equal precision, from blunt cuts and precision lines to slide cutting, texturizing, and point cutting.
Size Guide
5.5": Perfect for detail work, precision cutting, and stylists with smaller hands. Ideal for short cuts, pixies, and intricate detailing.
6.0": Our most versatile size. Balances control with efficiency for most common techniques from bobs to layers.
6.5": Best for barbers and stylists working with longer hair. Excellent for slide cutting techniques and working with thicker hair types.
I do alot of different cutting styles throughout the day, everything from skin fades to longer textured cuts, and these handle pretty much everything I throw at them. The slide cutting is where they really shine though. So smooth through the hair, especially when I'm doing point cutting or texturizing work.
The cobalt steel is the real deal. Still crazy sharp after daily use, and I haven't had to adjust the tension much at all. They just stay where you set them, which is rare in my experience.
They're definitely on the premium side, but not ridiculous like some Japanese shears I've tried. For what you get, that versatility and quality, they're worth it. I went with the 6.0" and it's become my go-to for most cuts.
All those extras are actually useful too, not just throwaway accessories. That texturizing razor is legit, and the carbon fiber comb is now the only one I use.
If you're the type who does a bit of everything and wants one solid pair that can handle it all, these are worth checking out. Your hand will thank you at the end of a long Saturday."
